Catalogue 2010Following on from last year, Studio Toogood was asked by Tom Dixon to style and direct the new catalogue for 2010-11 . By using municipal trolleys from factories and aluminium air conditioning ducts alongside equipment found in the photography studio, Faye Toogood wanted to communicate some of the immediacy, boldness and heroic shapes behind this year’s theme: “Industry”. Tom Dixon Showroom, LondonBased on the concept developed for Tom Dixon’s ‘Utility’ theme for 2009, Studio Toogood designed and installed Tom Dixon’s first showroom at Portobello Dock. Visitors can explore the showroom by peering through windows and doors that reveal individual room sets inspired by materials such as copper, cast iron and wood. Salvaged, found and reclaimed materials were used to express an anti-retail aesthetic. Photography Tom Mannion |

Catalogue 2009Studio Toogood has completed the creative direction and styling of Tom Dixon’s first catalogue. In collaboration with photographer Henry Bourne, the Studio worked on building a concept around this year’s “Utility” theme. Embracing the robust qualities of British manufacturing and industrial machinery, the imagery is made up of a series photographs taken in 19th-century London factories alongside detail shots of old tools. Shop ConceptThe Studio has also been working closely with Tom Dixon on a visual merchandising concept for its “Utility” theme that can be rolled out to all of its shops across the globe. Chalk boards, old tools, fluorescent tape and photographic lightboxes featured heavily. Part of this brief included designing a series of cabinets and tables on which to display the furniture and accessories collection. |

George SmithStudio Toogood provided the direction and styling of the catalogue for Tom Dixon’s latest collection of upholstered furniture manufactured by George Smith. The overall concept, photographed by Henry Bourne, explores and contrasts the inherent craftsmanship and quality of these traditionally made pieces against the unashamedly modern shapes found in Tom Dixon’s designs. |
